Dakota the Bearded Dragon

On Saturday, April 27th, we brought a new pet into our home. Bryce has been wanting a bearded dragon for forever! PetSmart was having a sale on the reptile tank kits, but they were out.

We ended up going to PetCo, who matched the price, went home and set up the tank. Once completed, we headed back up to PetSmart to pick out a bearded dragon. PetCo didn’t have any, so we had to make the trip back to the other pet store.

I found it ironic that PetSmart had bearded dragons, but were out of the tank kit we needed and PetCo had the tank kit, but didn’t sell bearded dragons. Haha!

But without further ado, here are some adorable pics of Dakota! We’re not sure if it’s a boy or a girl. Bryce and I were going back and forth on what to refer to, but I think we’ve settled on “she/her” for now. She’s too young to determine her sex. The pet shop said she’s about 2-3 months old.

Then, last Wednesday, one of the cats wanted to die. I don’t know which one, but one of the heavy turds had gotten on the bearded dragon cage and ripped the screen lid. I was able to tuck the screen and rubber seal back into the channel, so it’s fixed, but I ended up having to go out into the garage and find some spare wood to cover the cage at night since Kevin was out of town all last week for work.

All fixed! This is the underside of the lid with the mesh and rubber seal.

As the week progressed, I figured out one of these two cats is the guilty party in breaking the screen top. I just know it! None of the other cats have bothered the tank.

But yesterday, I took these pics of Dakota. She’s doing fine. She likes to take naps at the top of her piece of wood near the heat lamp, basking in it’s warmth.
